“There is no more outstanding poet in our century than Tsvetaeva,” Iosif Brodsky has spoken of Marina Tsvetaeva. Without caring about the boundaries, Tsvetaeva has let a spontaneous principle in the poetry. A stunning temperament in combination with extraordinary rhythmic diversity are distinctive features of Tsvetaeva’s lyric poetry. One “for all” and one “against the world”. She belonged to none of the schools of poetry, and she recognized only human influences rather than literary. And, counter to misunderstanding, loneliness and beggarly “superheavy” way of life, she always remained inwardly independent. As Bella Akhmadulina wrote about her, “she was a leader of her fate, and the hosts of intellect and spirit have followed this leader”. The book consists of selected M.I. Tsvetaeva’s poems of various years.
